Terms of Service.
Last updated August 15, 2026. These terms are an agreement between you and Roots Stay In Touch LLC (“Roots,” “we,” “us”), a California limited liability company. By creating an account or using Roots, you agree to them.
The service
Roots is a private space for a household to save photos, videos, and memories and share them with a small circle of people they choose. We may add, change, or remove features over time.
Your account
You are responsible for your account and for keeping your sign-in secure. You must be old enough to form a binding contract in your jurisdiction to use Roots. Don’t use someone else’s account without permission.
Membership and billing
Roots Membership is an optional paid subscription that covers your whole household. Prices and what’s included are shown on our pricing page and, authoritatively, in the App Store when you subscribe.
- Auto-renewal. Memberships renew automatically at the end of each billing period (every three months for Seasonal, every year for Annual) at the then-current price, until you cancel.
- Cancellation. Membership is billed through the App Store, so you cancel anytime in your Apple ID subscription settings (Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or Manage membershipinside the app, which takes you there). Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep member access through the end of the period you’ve already paid for.
- Refunds. See our Refund & Cancellation policy.
Membership is purchased through Apple In-App Purchase and billed to your Apple ID. Physical photo prints are billed separately and processed by Stripe; we don’t see or store your full card details.
Your content
Your photos, videos, and words are yours. You keep all rights to them. You give us only the limited permission we need to operate Roots — to store your content, back it up, and display it to the specific people you’ve chosen to share with. We don’t sell your content, use it to train advertising models, or show it to anyone you haven’t shared it with.
You’re responsible for the content you add, and you confirm you have the right to add it and to share it with the people you share it with.
Acceptable use
Don’t use Roots to:
- break the law or infringe anyone’s rights;
- upload or share content that is unlawful, or that harasses, threatens, or harms others;
- attempt to access accounts, data, or systems that aren’t yours, or disrupt the service;
- resell or commercially exploit the service without our permission.
Objectionable content and other people
There is zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behavior on Roots. You can report content and block people from inside the app, and we may remove content or suspend accounts that violate these terms. We aim to act on valid reports within 24 hours.
Ending your use
You can stop using Roots and delete your account at any time — see account deletion. We may suspend or end access if you materially breach these terms or use Roots in a way that risks harm to others or to the service.
Disclaimers and liability
Roots is provided “as is.” While we work hard to keep your memories safe and available, we can’t promise the service will be uninterrupted or error-free. To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
Changes
We may update these terms as Roots evolves. If we make a material change, we’ll take reasonable steps to let you know. Continuing to use Roots after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
